Harris County runs sixteen Justice Courts, and Houston accepts DSC requests by email but not completion documents. If the citation names the City of Houston Municipal Courts, request mandatory DSC by the arraignment date by mail, email or in person. The court lists $144, or $169 for a school-zone citation. If you missed that route or do not meet its requirements, call about the separate discretionary process instead of assuming the mandatory terms apply.

Court checklist

  2. For a mandatory request, submit the plea, Texas license, insurance and current amount by mail, email or in person. Use the current court forms page and wait for approval before taking the course.

If the citation names a Harris County Justice of the Peace, use the exact precinct and place printed on it. Harris County lists sixteen separate courts and offers an eligible online DSC application. Do not pay the citation or take the course before the court approves the request.

Court checklist

  1. Read the exact Harris County precinct and place printed on the citation. Do not choose a court from your city, neighborhood, ZIP code or the nearest courthouse.
  2. Use the official directory to confirm only that named office, then select the exact filed case in Find My Case if the DSC option is available.
  3. Apply for DSC and pay only the court costs requested for that option. Do not make an ordinary citation payment or take the course before approval.
